Neapel-Forum
The Neapel-Forum is a cross-departmental platform for the exchange of ideas on Naples and Southern Italy among all researchers at the Instute. It provides a framework for discussing research questions, presenting and discussing new publications on the topic, and preparing academic events and excursions. The issues examined by members of the Neapel-Forum include more particularly: the construction, perception, and representation of urban space in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period; the structuring and use of sacred spaces and spaces of power; architecture and its relationship to the stratigraphy of the city, a layering which is both physical as well as conditioned by memory; the way in which Naples was transformed into a historical palimpsest by selectively reusing and emphasizing specific aspects of the past; and the place-bound nature and specific characteristics of Neapolitan art production.
The Neapel-Forum creates – and integrates itself into – a wider network of local and international academic institutions and research teams centered on Neapolitan studies. The group’s initiatives include public lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences addressing Neapolitan topics through a comparative and interdisciplinary approach.
