PubLink: A Toolset for Enriching Scholarly Digital Publications
Elisa Bastianello

PubLink aims to create an online toolset that will simplify the digital publication of scientific content enriched with annotations. Although our primary focus is on Open Access publications in the Humanities, particularly the Bibliotheca Hertziana’s Digital Publications on the HumanitiesConnect Platform, the tools we are developing will be beneficial to all institutes and departments interested in publishing in a sustainable online workflow in JATS XML format.
The project has reached the end of its first 18-month cycle (March 2023-August 2024) and has been extended with additional funding for another 18 months. During this period, a public platform will be created where all services already in operation will be made available without the need for installation. A conference has also been scheduled to gather further feedback and analyze potential future developments.
A demo of the interface and tools, developed by Dr. Christopher Tomlinson, the postdoc appointed thanks to DFG funding, is available at https://cont.humanitiesconnect.online/ (an ORCID account is needed to log in). The integration with the Bibliotheca Hertziana research infrastructure is supported by Dr. Alessandro Adamou.
The workflow is already in use for the publication of articles in the series Hertziana Studies in Art History, available online at https://hsah.humanitiesconnect.pub/, especially for the publication of volume 3 “From Hype to Reality”.
