The Notion of Renaissance, Between History and Myth. Origins, Transformations, New-Perspectives
The conference will explore the many ways the concept of the Renaissance has been viewed over the centuries, with a focus on the key figures, artistic practices and paradigms that have helped keep it alive for five hundred years.

Prefigured by the Italian humanists and developed to Giorgio Vasari's historiographic design (1550 and 1568), the Renaissance concept began to be codified in the 18th century and was consolidated in the 19th. Since then, it has undergone a substantial number of reinterpretations, criticisms and reappraisals. More than forty academics from Italy and abroad will offer their contributions and thoughts – ranging from the role played by antiquity and the mediaeval past in the Renaissance period to case-studies featuring the artworks, artists, materials and methods, and exploring the multiple reinterpretations and oscillations of the Renaissance concept from the 17th century to contemporary and post-human times, complete with all the celebrations, oppositions and deconstructions.
