Print Publication Series of the Bibliotheca Hertziana

Marieke von Bernstorff

During the reporting period, seventeen monographs and collected volumes were printed in the Institute’s publication series, under the direction of Marieke von Bernstorff, which appeared in the five series of the institute, which are Römische Studien (und Forschungen) der Bibliotheca Hertziana (Hirmer Verlag), Studi della Bibliotheca Hertziana (Silvana Editoriale), Quaderni della Bibliotheca Hertziana (Campisano Editore) and the Bellori Edition (Wallstein Verlag).

Three of these monographs were dissertations, two were critical source editions, and eleven volumes were books written by multiple authors. In addition, there are monographs that were published as collaborative projects outside the Hertziana’s publication series and that were only partially or only in an advisory capacity supervised by the editorial team. They comprise ten individual publications and one volume of the Wölfflin Edition (vol. 2).

Roma communis patria, Campisano Editore, Rome
The book series is directed by Susanne Kubersky-Piredda

This book series presents the results of the Roma communis patria research project focuses on foreign communities in early modern Rome, their dynamics of cohabitation, and their interaction within the urban space. In particular, it addresses the question of how groups of people who shared common origins used art and visual culture to foster a sense of belonging among their members while also presenting their collective identities to an external audience. The latest volume, published in early 2024, examines the social dynamics and artistic patronage of the so-called “German” community in Rome and its church of Santa Maria dell’Anima during the turbulent times of religious conflict and confessionalization between the 15th and the 17th centuries. As part of our project Mapping Collective Identities in Via Giulia, we are furthermore preparing a volume on the church of Santa Caterina da Siena based on the PhD thesis of former fellow Lilla Matyok and centered on material culture in early modern processions.
