First published in Munich in 1915, Heinrich Wölfflin’s Kunstgeschichtliche Grundbegriffe has gone through nineteen editions and been translated into over twenty languages, making it the most successful book in the history of art history. This edition will be the first to provide a scholarly commentary on the work and to include important documents from the time of its creation. Most of the commentary was completed in 2023.
