Under the supervision of Susanne Kubersky and Oliver Lenz, a group of young researchers has created a mobile app on the history of the Institute and the furnishings of its buildings. For this purpose, a license was acquired for the use of the platform produced by the Zurich-based start-up Artifact. The app offers employees and visitors to the Institute the opportunity to access information about the Bibliotheca Hertziana via smartphone or tablet. The app has an image recognition function that allows individual works of art to be experienced using augmented reality. The creation of the app offered the young scholars the opportunity to acquire practical skills that will be of great use to them in their future careers: teamwork, bibliographic research, other forms of research activity, creating concise and easy-to-understand texts in three languages, image editing, dealing with copyright issues, working with a content management system including image recognition software, and curating a small exhibition on individual works from the graphics collection.
