Studies on the History of the Reception of the Medici-Lions
Regine Schallert

Giovanni Paolo Panini, Roma Moderna, 1757, Detail: Lion, Boston, Museum of Fine Arts.
The focus of the second part of the study on the pair of statues of the so-called Medici lions (Florence, Loggia die Lanzi; cf. status report 2015-2018) is the change of meaning in an extremely intense history of reception, which has produced a universally valid motif that lives on in imitations and copies to the present day.
